Litigation and Appeals
Litigation is another word for a court case or a proceeding in court. Often the word is associated with trials, although in reality it covers all aspects of the proceeding including depositions, negotiations, and plea agreements. An Appeal is a further proceeding in court. In an appeal, the appellant (usually the person who lost at trial) argues that a mistake has been made in the trial court and asks that the appeals court "overturn" the decision of the trial court. Appeals are often made on very technical grounds and involve extensive research and briefing. They are not part of the trial per se and so we will generally quote you a separate fee for appellate services.
