Mediation is a process in which a neutral third party meets jointly with parties to the dispute. The mediator assists the parties on each side in crafting a resolution to the conflict that both parties feel is fair. Mediation is generally a voluntary process that has the benefits of being confidential, cooperative, cost effective, and less time consuming than litigation. In Greenville County, Mediation is mandatory in family law cases. We offer mediation in all of our Family Law cases in an effort to minimize the emotional and financial impact that divorce has on a family's members. We find that because the process is voluntary, and the solution is facilitated rather than imposed, compliance with the resolution is higher following mediation than it is following litigation.
